Rockford Chapel: 515 President Street, Yellow Springs, OH
Located on Antioch College Campus
Littlebig family members and anyone interested in coming along: We are holding a one-day gathering at Rockford Chapel in Yellow Springs, Ohio on Saturday, October 22nd starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 5:30 p.m. Rockford Chapel is situated on Antioch College’s Campus at 515 President Street in Yellow Springs.
Cost: $85 per person.
ABOUT THE DAY
We will start our day with a hand washing ceremony that will open our circle. Elder Raymond TeKorako Ruka will then lead a guided 40-minute meditation: Walking the Shores of Eternity. For those choosing not to participate in the meditation there will be a neighboring room in the chapel with accessible restrooms and hot & cold drinks.
Over the day, Raymond will give two presentations. The first is called
Reality defined against the backdrop of my own matriarchal worldview
“I will speak to why water and stone must meet and share. For Water holds in her stories the ancient mysteries of the cosmos and Stone, the financial and technological wherewithal to overcome hunger and thirst. But at what cost will these transactions come? What must we insure against?”
The second presentation will be acknowledging grief while attending to the sacred process of dying. Raymond will talk specifically about the dying and support process of an elderly parent in Confronting Grief: The Bank of No Regrets. “Welcome to a place where we can at last peel back the layers of our shared “onionized” humanity and reflect for a while on our own individual journey – mortality or what?”
After a short break, there will be a Q+A session that will take us through to our closing ceremony where our Grandmother Council will close our Sacred Circle.
For those who would like to end our day together, we have timetabled a group dinner at 6 p.m. just two miles north of Yellow Springs at the Golden Jersey Inn on State Route 68. (Dinner to be paid by attendees.) They do not take reservations but they said they would be expecting our group around that time. There are no expectations, if you choose to travel on home.
The Littlebig Family is invited to bring items to put on the Altar for the day. If you have a vial of water you would like to bring as an offering for prayers and blessings offered during ceremony and Circle that would be gratefully accepted.
We are asking each registered attendee to bring a packed lunch and we will eat together on the lawn or inside the chapel depending on the weather. Alternately, some of the family might choose to take a stroll into the village, which is less than a 10-minute walk from Rockford Chapel. There are a number of restaurants and deli’s available there, and we’d be happy to help choose based on your interests. We will provide bottled water and herbal & black teas and coffee.
We have a few free private accommodations available with some of our local Yellow Springs families for those who would like to overnight. As well, there are a variety of area lodgings that are available in our cozy little village. Most of these lodgings are within a 10-minute walk or drive from Rockford Chapel. Here is one website that lists a number but not all of available lodgings: http://www.stayyellowsprings.com
Love and Blessings,
